Alluring Interview with MUA Lydia Rodriguez

In this month's Alluring Interview, we are featuring Lydia Rodriguez, a makeup artist from San Francisco. She shares with us her tips for a quick smokey eye, her love of bubble baths, and her most forbidden moment (it involves a secret hiding place)...

42 DUBONNET: Tell us about you.

LYDIA: My name is Lydia Rodriguez, I'm a Freelance Makeup Artist from San Francisco, Ca. I'm sole proprietor of "Lydia The Makeup Artist." I started out as a self taught MUA then I began practicing makeup looks on my family & friends. Since I loved makeup artistry so much ...I decided that taking courses and starting a business would be the perfect career.

Since then I've taken the "Master Class" Makeup course by celebrity makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic and I'm enrolled in QC Makeup Academy. I'm so excited to share that I will be taking my second course with the "Master Class" Mario Dedivanovic & Anastasia Soare in Los Angeles, Ca. On February 9, 2019. I love learning all that I can while working.

42 DUBONNET: What is your proudest career accomplishment?

LYDIA: I have a couple of proud career accomplishments. The first is working together with Younique Cosmetics in direct sales, the second is being in partnership with "My Looking Glass" @mylookingglassofficial to share makeup looks with an amazing beauty community.

42 DUBONNET: What’s one secret you learned when you started wearing/ doing makeup?

LYDIA: A beauty secret that I learned when I started doing makeup was how to create a quick soft smokey eye using one shade of eyeshadow & a pencil eyeliner. First you tight line the eye with an eyeliner pencil then run the eyeliner pencil across the top lash line. No need to be neat with it because you are going to smudge it in to blend anyway.

Next, smudge the top lash line eyeliner with a smudge brush or your ring finger. Then apply the single eyeshadow shade with a shader eyeshadow brush on the top lid and lower lash line and blend into the crease with a fluffy blending brush. Add some mascara and your done!

42 DUBONNET: What’s one of your secrets for how you do your own makeup?

LYDIA: One of my beauty secrets for doing my own makeup: I use concealer only where it is needed around the eye area. When I'm adding concealer around the eyes, I also add some to the outer corners of my eyes and I place it upwards on to my temples and blend to create a more lifted eye look.

42 DUBONNET: What’s one of the juiciest secrets you’ve ever been told?

LYDIA: A juicy secret that I don't mind sharing about myself is after a long day ... I love a lukewarm bubble bath and walking around the house in a giant long tee with no pants on.

42 DUBONNET: What’s one thing you’re curious about?

LYDIA: I'm curious to find out where my life path will end up... I mean, I have it played out in my mind already but I'm just curious to see if it's exactly how I invision it to be.

42 DUBONNET: What’s the most forbidden thing you’ve ever done?

LYDIA: The most forbidden thing I've ever done was hide boyfriends from my very strict parents in the house, usually in the closet. This was in my younger teen years. I still never told them about it.

42 DUBONNET: What’s your favorite look to create?

LYDIA: My favorite looks to create are a soft smokey eye and a natural skin finish makeup look.

42 DUBONNET: What’s one secret for creating this look?

LYDIA: For this look I used a dome or bullet head eyeshadow brush to apply the dark eyeshadow shade to the outer corners / outer v area of my eyes.

42 DUBONNET: Thank you Lydia for sharing with us! Before you go, can you share with our audience how to follow you or reach out to you?
