This month we are featuring Mandie Brice, Los Angeles makeup artist/hair stylist specializing in male grooming and bringing out natural beauty. She shares with us her top beauty tips, how she got started and the most forbidden thing she's ever done (which happened at the 50-yard line!)
42 DUBONNET: Tell us about you.
MANDIE: I have been blogging on and off for longer than I care to mention, because my age will be more and more apparent! My introduction to this industry was as a model, where I got to travel to glamorous places like NYC, Vegas, Paris, and Gary, Indiana! After a while, I figured out that I wasn't getting younger (who knew?) but wanted to stay in the industry (because playing dress-up is fun), so I took the times that I had to do my own makeup on set, the times that I worked with world-class artists and absorbed everything they did and said like a sponge, and the times that I got to model for makeup classes and developed a portfolio as a makeup artist. I've been way more successful as a HMUA than I was as a model, but still love getting in front of the camera sometimes! Through modeling, I became passionate about fitness (which is why the furry purple wall pics are in sports bra!) and personal development, so my blog and social media are about a wide variety of topics!
42 DUBONNET: And tell us which products you are wearing in your photo?
MANDIE: 42 Dubonnet products worn: fringe mascara, grenadine lip gloss layered over bootsy collins lipstick, sultry eyes gel liner, eyeshadow in moonshine, sidecar, bourbon, and noir, as well as the crushed metal shadow in silver bullet. Also wearing Too Faced shadow insurance, mehron velvet finish primer serum, NARS pure radiant tinted moisturizer in groenland, NARS blush in Orgasm, Marc Jacobs Beauty Glow Stick for highlighter, and concealer and setting powder by CoverFX.42 DUBONNET: What’s one secret you learned when you started wearing / doing makeup?
MANDIE: The only rules that really matter are those related to hygiene. You can pull anything off with enough confidence!
42 DUBONNET: What’s one of your secrets for how you do your own makeup?
MANDIE: Sleep is my biggest makeup tip! My skin is a million times better when I get a good night's sleep. The more sleep I get, the less makeup I need! I'm also pretty boring with my own face most of the time!
42 DUBONNET: What’s one of the juiciest secrets you’ve ever been told (one that won’t get you in trouble for sharing it)?
MANDIE: I always love it when I'm the first to find out that someone is pregnant, getting married, about to be proposed to, etc. I just love being in the know in general, especially when it's something exciting for someone I care about!
42 DUBONNET: What’s one thing you’re curious about?
MANDIE: One thing? The list is SO long. If I ever win the lottery or earn more money than I know what to do with, I am going to be enrolled in so many universities and trade schools! As it is, I read tons and do lots of online courses!
42 DUBONNET: What’s the most forbidden thing you’ve ever done?
MANDIE: I snuck into a football stadium in the middle of the night and drank champagne on the 50-yard line. I think that's it!
42 DUBONNET: What’s your favorite look to create?
MANDIE: I don't have a favorite look. Every person who sits in my chair has completely different features and a completely different agenda (or the art director/designer/creative director/photographer's agenda). My favorite thing is to enhance my client's natural beauty and make him or her feel incredible and confident!
42 DUBONNET: Do you have a photo you'd like to share with us of this look?
42 DUBONNET: Thank you Mandie for interviewing with us! How can our readers follow you or learn more about your work?
