February is the month of love. In this month's Alluring Interview, we hope you'll fall in love with Beauty Blogger, Amy VandenBoogert, from The Makeup Case, a blog highlighting Beauty Review & Tips. Her humorous interview will have you giggling and wondering what she'll share next.
We are also thrilled to be included in Amy's Favorite Beauty Discoveries of 2017!
42 DUBONNET: Tell us about you.
AMY: I'm in my early 40s and I've been blogging for almost 4 years now. I got inspired by watching some of the YouTube beauty influencers and thought, "Hey, I can do that too!" But I hate how I look and sound on camera. However, writing has always been one of my strongest skills, so I started a written blog instead. What's funny is blogging got me more into makeup now than I was when I was in my 20s! I've learned so much over the last 4 years. Besides beauty blogging, I'm a major roller coaster and theme park junkie (I write for the site MiceChat in my spare time). I'm also a big baseball and hockey fan (love my Rays & Lightning), enjoy photography, avid music lover (my boyfriend is a local musician) and I'm "mom" to a couple of crazy cats. You can find me on my blog at The Makeup Case, or follow me on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
42 DUBONNET: And tell us which products you are wearing in your photo?
AMY: I can't remember every product I'm wearing in this photo, but I do know my foundation was Estee Lauder Double Wear (my holy grail) and on the lips I'm wearing the Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick in shade 135 Enigmatique.
42 DUBONNET: What’s one secret you learned when you started wearing / doing makeup?
AMY: It's not really a secret, but just solid advice: Blend, blend, blend! Blend that ish out until it feels like your arm is going to come off! Other than that, there really are no rules when it comes to makeup. It's fun to experiment and just play. If you don't like how it turns out, you can just take it off because... it's just makeup and you can start over again.
42 DUBONNET: What’s one of your secrets for how you do your own makeup?
AMY: Want to make your shadows really pop on your lid? There's a few you ways you can achieve it! 1. Spray a little Fix+ or your favorite setting spray on a flat shadow brush before dipping into your lid shade of choice. You could also use water, but there's something with the ingredients of the setting spray that gives shadows a little more "oomph" when applied this way. 2. Glitter primer! This has basically the same effect as the setting spray method. But you need to do each eye separately as glitter primer dries quickly. But again, there's something there that just brings extra life to shadows. 3. Use a different color base. A white base will make pretty much any color more vibrant. A black base, however, can give a shadow an entirely different personality. I have some shadows that look completely different when applied over a dark base, which gives them even more versatility.
42 DUBONNET: What’s one of your juiciest secrets?
AMY: I don't have any juicy secrets I've been told. As for me, well.... I'm not saying I'm Batman, but has anyone ever seen me and Batman in the same room together? Hmm?
42 DUBONNET: What’s one thing you’re curious about?
AMY: This is going to sound totally weird and random, but... Whenever I see a single discarded shoe on the side of a road, just... how? How does a person lose just one shoe? Unless their name is Cinderella, it just boggles my mind.
42 DUBONNET: What’s the most forbidden thing you’ve ever done?
AMY: If I told you, I'd have to kill you. No seriously. Really. Stop looking at me like that! It wasn't me... it was the one armed man who was wearing one red shoe! (and if you got those references you get mega bonus points)
42 DUBONNET: What’s your favorite look to create?
AMY: I have a few favorites, but I love doing anything that involves using duochrome. I'm a total duochrome junkie. Eyeshadow, highlight, lips... Duochrome all the things!
